1. About the recipe
I don’t automatically run to the medicine cabinet or doctor when I get sick. Most cold medications make me drowsy if they are non-drowsy formulas. While I enjoy the sleep, I still need to get work done. Luckily, there are several ways to feel better naturally without any medication. One natural cold remedy I like is Lemon Ginger Tea. I feel better quickly, and the effects last for hours. Unfortunately, there is no cure for the common cold. However, this tea can help you feel better and reduce symptoms.
This hot herbal tea is light but vibrant with fresh flavours. It is a great balance between sweet, spicy and citrusy. It’s exactly what you need to have ready for when a chill arrives or when you need to chill out.
The recipe is homemade and very easy; no teabags are needed for this tea, so it’s easy to make to your specific taste.

Preparation time: 2 to 3 minutes
Cooking time: 5 to 7 minutes
2. Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups of water
- 2-inch ginger ( cleaned, unpeeled, sliced or grated)
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- Few lemon slices for serving (optional)
- Fresh mint leaves (optional)
3. Step by Step method
- Boil water on medium flame in a pot, pan, or kettle.
- Add sliced or grated ginger and cinnamon stick, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Switch off the heat, cover the pot for another 5 minutes, and let it steep. This is optional but highly recommended for the vibrant colour.
- Now, carefully pour the ginger tea into a cup using a strainer.
- Add honey and lemon juice and stir.
- Garnish with lemon slice and mint leaves.
4. Tips
- For extra strong flavour, use unpeeled, hand-grated ginger slices.
- The longer the tea steeps, the stronger the taste will be. The steeps are for 5 minutes at a minimum, but they can last up to 10 minutes for maximum flavour and health benefits.
- Fresh ginger will be more potent and taste fresher, but powdered ginger is better than nothing. You can also use dried ginger root. Again, it won’t be as good as fresh, but still, it has some benefits.
- You can make this tea with great variations, like adding turmeric and black pepper. Turmeric has a unique earthy flavour and tastes yummy with the spicy ginger and black pepper.
