1. About the recipe

Mutton stew is a dish with little gravy using whole spices; you can make it spicy or normal according to your taste. The stew is not overpowered by strong spices and is cooked along with onions. Enjoy this comfort dish with roti, paratha or rice. Here I am sharing with you a very simple recipe with readily available ingredients for making this dish.

Let’s Start Cooking!

Serving Suggestions : 3

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

2. Ingredients

  • 500gm mutton ( preferably shoulder cut)
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  •  2 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 15 pieces black pepper
  •  2 black cardamon
  •  2 bay leaf
  •   small piece of cinnamon
  •   4 whole red chilli
  •   salt
  •   300gm onion ( cut into thick pieces)

 3. Step-by-step method

  • I am making this mutton dish in a pressure cooker because it will take less time than any other vessel.
  •  Put mutton pieces, onion cuts, ginger garlic paste, whole spices, salt and mustard oil in a pressure cooker.

  •  Now switch on the full flame; after the first whistle, lower the flame and cook the mutton for another 13 minutes; after that, switch off the flame and wait for 10 minutes.
  • Now open the lid of the cooker, and you can see liquid gravy; put the cooker again on high flame until the gravy reaches your desired consistency. (don’t cover with lid at this stage)

  • After some time, you will notice that the gravy becomes thick. You can keep the consistency according to your choice.

  • It tastes better if the gravy is dry to the minimum.
  • Enjoy this amazing mouth-watering mutton dish with your favourite bread, Paratha Roti or Naan.

   4. Tips :

  •  Shoulder cut is best for this recipe because of its soft texture and flavour.
  •  Taste salt when pressure is released from the cooker and adjusts accordingly to your taste.
  • You can remove whole spices before serving.
  • Mustard oil is recommended for better results in this dish, but you are free to use any type of oil of your choice.
  • Olive oil can also be used.
