Here I am sharing with you a very detailed recipe with photos for making simple and tasty peas pulao. For this recipe, you can use frozen peas as well as fresh peas. However, as winter is approaching peas are in season and they are so sweet and fresh, I am making this pulao with fresh green peas.
Let’s start cooking!
Serving Suggestions: 4
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
- Ingredients::
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup green peas ( frozen or fresh)
- 3 tablespoon ghee
- 2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 cloves
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 to 3 green chillies
- Salt
- 4 cup water
- Fried onions for garnish ( optional)
- Step by Step method:
Matar Pulao can be made both in a pan or pressure cooker. Here I am sharing with you both way.
Matar Pulao in Pan:
- Rinse the rice 2 to 3 times till the water runs clear of starch. Soak the rice for 15 minutes.
- In a pot or pan, put ghee and oil ( you can make this rice using only ghee or only refined oil).
- Add zeera, cinnamon stick, clove, bay leaves, and green chillies.
- Saute for a few seconds.
-
Now add 4 cups of water (Use the same cup for measuring rice and water) in a pan on a high flame.
- When the water started boiling, add peas
- Stir well, Now add soaked basmati rice and salt.
- Taste the saltiness of the water, and adjust the salt according to the taste of the water. Now cover the pot or pan and cook on low flame.
- After 15 minutes on low flame, your Matar Pulao is ready. Garnish with fried onions at the time of serving.
Matar Pulao in a Pressure cooker :
- In a pressure cooker put ghee and refined oil. Add cumin seeds( zeera), cinnamon sticks, cloves, bay leaves, and green chillies. Fry all the spices, no need to brown the chillies.
- Add green peas and soaked rice to the pressure cooker. Stir them and add the same amount of water as Rice. Add salt according to your taste. Cover the lid and cook on high flame. After the first whistle, cook on low flame for 3 minutes. Stop cooking.
- Open the lid after 5 to 10 minutes, Garnish with fried onions or chopped coriander leave and enjoy with your favourite curry.
- Tips:
- Basmati rice will give your pulao the best texture and taste. But you can use any variety of long grain rice.
- Fresh and frozen peas can be used for this recipe. Seasonal fresh peas will give sweetness to the pulao.
- Use good quality of whole spices for the amazing flavour.
- Adjust water quantity according to the kind of rice .
